Week 5

In Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works, we learned about the benefits of using spreadsheets to show effort to our students and how it would benefit them. Pitler, H., et al (2009) states, "The research tells us that not all students realize the importance of effort, Many attribute their success or failure to external forces." One piece of technology that are suggested to use to help students to see the effects of effort, is to use a spreadsheet. Pitler, H., et al (2009) also states, "One easy way to help students make the connection between effort and achievement is by using a spreadsheet like Microsoft Excel."

Web2.0 New Tools New Schools, focused on assessment . Solomon, G. and Schrum, L. (2009) states,"Can assessment be authentic and simultaneouslsy prepare students to succeed in the standardized testing that they will face? Absolutely!" We as educators need to move away from drill and kill, and move toward authentic assessments. Another way to assess is through the use of games, because of the of the built in learning and testing all in one level, which Gee hints at in the eduphoria video.
